Years and years ago, I audited a course on cataloguing (a review of its history) of Dr. Buckland's, at UC Berkeley. This book has some of his quality as a person; something I am particularly happy to be able to remember this way.
Great overview; I am coming at this from a computer science perspective. The writing is clear and concise with some new ideas I haven't seen articulated in information retrieval, information theory, or library science that I have read (sociologists may be familiar with the ideas here already). The bibliography has many points to jump, and a nice set of notes in the back. I took many pages of notes while reading and expect this to be useful in my work.If you're interested in information from any variety of angles, this is a good investment.
