This was like having a review of my entire graduate program in psychology on my long commute to work and back every day. Is it effective? Well, I just nailed the NCE a couple of days ago in 90 minutes of the 4 hours allotted for the exam. Anybody want to buy a slightly used set for half price?

I Passed!I took the NCE a few weeks ago. Needed an 85/160 to pass and got a score of 130/160. I used Rosenthal's CDs, Encyclopedia, and App. I listened to the CDs and took notes. I made flashcards for the information I felt weakest in. I read through the encyclopedia once. My recommendation is not to overwhelm yourself with too many sources. Rosenthal's materials alone will prepare you to pass the exam.

I do think this is worth purchasing and I do not regret having done so. I am about 1/2 way through and I like the presentation style and the organization of the material. I am going to be taking the NCMCHE test and my understanding is that the diagnostic part of the test is more important than for the NCE. To my dismay, the section on the DSM is not up to date, and is based on the DSM IV. I recommend supplementing this with an up to date review on the DSM 5. I have not found anything else that is out of date thus far (to my knowledge). But because diagnosis is a big part of our exam, this error brought my rating down to a 3 when it would likely have been a 5.

Great tool for passing the CPCE. I used the audio during any driving that I did and when on the train/bus (to give you a sense of time spent listening, I average about 25-30hrs weekly as a commuter). I read Dr. Rosenthal's encyclopedia of counseling for actual study sessions. With the exception of three particular sections mentioned below, this audio review and the encyclopedia are the bulk of where my CPCE review came from. I am very happy with the results (passed the CPCE with 11 points shy of the maximum score). I studied for about a month and a half. To be honest, I wasn't too sure if the audio review would work for me, but I found it really easy to listen and retain much of the information being passed on. There were three sections which I did find to be a little weak (the multicultural section review seemed very outdated, with some of the material coming across as if from an MC lecture taking place in the 90's). I also felt somewhat similar about the group counseling section (though not as extreme). For these, I just made sure to review my own class notes/textbooks a little deeper than for the other sections. To be fair, however, my program places a large emphasis on multicultural practice, so this may also be the reason why I found that particular section as "ehh..." I was also a bit concerned about the ethics section because of the recent ACA code of ethics changes, but found it to be informative nonetheless (nothing stood out which would make me ignore that section's audio). Just consider that some stuff may no longer be accurate because of changes made in 2014. These three sections aside, I highly recommend this to anyone studying for the CPCE. Hope this review helps!

I bought this to help ease my anxiety about the NCE. I used it on my commute to work. It really helped. I used this along with the purple book and scored off the charts. Not that it matters since it's pass fail. Anyway, this is an excellent resource to use with the purple book. The information is presented in a different way and helps with remembering.

I spend a lot of time in the car, so these were wonderful for my studying. I spent about 2 months listening (each CD about 3 times total) and passed the NCE easily even after being out of school for 2 years. I did very little other studying and only took a few practice exams to supplement these CDs. Some of the information is a little outdated (ethics mostly), but I HIGHLY recommend these study CDs!

If you finish this entire CD set you will level up as a psychologist. I recommend this material even at the expensive price. I feel like it's a bit overpriced considering the dude just recorded himself reading his notes (there are some speech errors and bankground noises in the CDs). However, in all, I would say the CD is good. You'd be better off to read the wikipedia page for all your tests concepts (noted in your tests study guide). BUT when you don't have the time to read, you can listen to this in the car and it will help a tad. I used it for the school counselor tests and it helped, though, a lot of the information within isn't needed for the school counselor test. If there are concepts you need to memorize for recall on a test, this won't help you do that. You will have to do that independently OR listen to that part of the CD several times. For instance, a test might ask about a 14 year old having trouble with finding friends. You would recall that Erik Erikson's stages suggests 14 year olds are in the Identity vs. Role Confusion stage and that will give you some insight on answering the question. Hearing it once on the CD will not help you memorize what you need to recall in order to process all of Erik's stages for the test at hand - especially when you are on the spot and being timed for the test. Though, the CD does sometimes offer some Mnemonics and it does go over some content more than once throughout the CDs. I would say this CD is STILL worth your time.

Used this in conjunction with the Purple Book (Encyclopedia of Counseling). I found the CDS quite helpful as Rosenthal goes through a lot of the material presented in the book in a lecture format, and then supplements that material by providing five CDS of pure questions. I basically listened to this every day and night for 1-2 months before my exam. I would warn you- be careful when listening to this in the car- it has a kind of meditative effect!

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of the most well know children's fantasies out there. Yet somehow, I missed it when I was younger. So I decided to give it a read a few days ago.This book tells the story of Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, four children living in a professor's house. One day, they walk through a wardrobe into the Land of Narnia, where mythical creatures exist and animals can talk. They are drawn into a battle between the White Witch and Aslan the Lion, a battle between good and evil.The best thing I can say for this book is that the writing style reminds me of Neil Gaiman. Indeed, I know for a fact that Lewis is one of Gaiman's main influences. Lewis uses a third-person perspective that loves to provide commentary on the story in the form of jokes and observations that make it fun to read. And, as a Christian Allegory, there is a level of symbolism that other series lack.Other than that, however, the book has aged poorly, both as a book written in 1950 being read in the present day, and as a book written for children being read by a person in his 20's. Peter, Susan, and Lucy are the same character, with no real personality differences to tell them apart. The characterization of everyone is shallow, with a massive wall between the pure evil and pure good characters. And the falling action after the climax is abbreviated to the point of lunacy.Now, I try and grade kids books on a curve to what I feel I would have enjoyed more when I was younger. In that sense, I give this book four stars. But I will state that unless you want check this off on your books of classics to read, it probably isn't worth your time.

This is an 8.5x11 (magazine size) paperback copy of an abridged version of the C.S. Lewis classic – NOT the original. “Independently Published”. The cover art appears to have been printed from a low resolution digital image, and the giant page margins are a waste of space. I was hoping this would be a good primer for my 7YO, but was sadly disappointed.

It can be a risk to re-read books that you loved as a child or a teen. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of the books that I read countless times as I was growing up. The world of Narnia never got old or boring. Happily, I enjoyed this as much 40+ years later!Published in 1950, this was the then first book of the Narnia series. A prequel was published later. I read other books in the Narnia series, but this was always my favorite. People will tell you that this is a story about Christianity, a retelling of stories from the Bible, or an allegory. As a child I thought this was a wonderful fairy tale. As an adult, I was able to see the moral or Christian parallels but I chose to ignore them and read this as a fairy tale.Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy live in London but they are sent to the countryside during WWII to escape the blitz. They are housed with an elderly and wise professor and his strict and intimidating housekeeper in an old mansion. While playing hide and seek on a rainy day, Lucy hides in wardrobe. Behind the fur coats is the land of Narnia. Narnia is ruled by the White Witch and she has made the land "always winter but never Christmas." Narnia is divided into good animals and bad animals who serve the Witch. Lucy is helped by a "good" faun, who protects her from the Witch. The presence of a human in Narnia is threatening to the Witch and all the animals have been told to alert her immediately. Lucy safely returns home and her siblings do not believe her story. Edmund and Lucy then find Narnia together but he meets the White Witch and is put under her spell. On returning home, he lies to the two older siblings and claims Narnia does not exist. Eventually, all four siblings end up in Narnia, though with Edmund sneaking off to see the Witch. With the help of Mr. & Mrs. Beaver, Peter, Susan, and Lucy go to meet Aslan the Lion and together they battle to save Narnia. Each child is given a special task and a magical tool. Aslan makes huge sacrifices to save Edmund. The good and bad animals of the forest do battle and being a fairy tale, there is a happy ending.This book really sparked my imagination when I was a child. I just love the idea of a secret wardrobe that leads to another world. I still do! The book is dedicated to Mr. Lewis' goddaughter Lucy. It reads as if your kindly godfather was telling you a wonderful story. I love the little asides by the narrator. As a child, I did not realize that the story took place during WWII or that many children were removed from London for their safety. Otherwise, the story is as I remembered and I believe the illustrations are the same. This is a classic for a reason. If you missed it in childhood, read it yourself or share it with a special young person. It was lovely to visit Narnia again!

Perhaps I missed out on an integral part of childhood, but I did not have many fairy tales or books of magical tales in my life as a young boy. Lewis has an uncanny ability to make this readable as an adult and readable to a child. The reflections towards real life (one does not lock himself in a wardrobe!) and the magical life of Narnia (...because that is how beavers behave) are incredibly easy to relate to one another - it's as if you are there, understanding the ways of Narnia, though you've never been (and sadly, never will be).Notable are the Christian reflections of this tale, of what it's like to go down a path of sin with Edmund as he makes his way through the cold to the witch's castle, having fellowship amongst themselves at the dinner table, and Aslan's ultimate sacrifice, while being a being of immense power, allowed himself to be muzzled, beaten, and killed by the hands of the witch. A Christian myself, I look forward to re-reading the tale to grasp upon Lewis's deeper yet simple stories of the life of children and beings if Narnia. That being said, if you are not Christian, the story does not really reference Christianity much at all, save calling the male children "Sons of Adam" and the female children "Daughters of Eve".

I love this book; read it to the kids (5 & 9 yrs) as soon as it arrived, and they both loved it too. Yes, it's an adaptation and shortened and not written the way C.S. Lewis wrote the book (and there are some interesting things Lucy says that she never said in the original book or film version), but the pictures are beautiful and it captures more or less the gist of the story -- four children tumble through a magic wardrobe into Narnia to help Aslan fight the White Witch. Patricia McConnell not only tells you about the different looks your dog can show, she has photos that absolutely let's you see what your dog is trying to tell you.I think we all know the face of a dog that is ready to attack but can you tell the difference in one that is mad or scared. The pictures in this book really show the difference. Do you know what a happy or sad dog looks like well again these pictures show you how to see your dog in a new way. Wouldn't it be great if we could understand our animals better? This book is really worth reading if that is something you want to do.I know after reading this book I am more concerned about how I look to my dog. As Miss McConnell speaks about how our dogs spend a great amount of time watching us because they are better students of reading expressions on faces than we will ever be.I am working on training a young dog and have had trouble with recall or come sometime. Miss McConnell, said that facing a dog straight on is a signal in the dog society to stand still and for us to turn slightly side way and to smile or open mouth slightly and call them. WOW what a difference. The dog bounded to me every time I did this.There a more hints on how to understand your dog and a great story of McConnell's life on her sheep ranch and in her practice that make this an interesting read.

Reading Patricia McConnell is just like hearing her live. Her syndicated radio show, Calling All Pets, originated in my home state of Wisconsin and I was a faithful listener, and Wisconsin Public Radio contributor, for much of my adult life.This woman is so wise in the ways of dogs. Without becoming anthropomorphic (you'll get the reference shortly after you start reading), McConnell shows and tells you what facial and body expressions different dogs are telegraphing and what these signs usually mean they will do next.Every dog lover needs to read this book.

I had to watch the Tawzer video where Pat talks about this book. It really helped clear up,the "fear as aggression" part of the book. Basically she explains that a dog who is fearful or shy can respond with "defensive aggression" and I think I had trouble understanding it at first. Do,dogs have emotions. Dog owners say yes, canine research says results are mixed. Pat McDonnell is in the yes camp she explains why.Disclaimer: I have watched and read EVERYTHING that she has written and all of her videos. She is my all time favorite ethnologist. I could watch or read her work over and over again and learn something new every time. This book is filled,with information. I have the Audible version, this ebook, and rented the video from Tawzer Dog. It is packed with information and not a light read.Four stars because parts are hard to understand at first.

I have read, only partially, another book on the subject and given up as details were confusing and not clearly presented. Patricia McConnell presents the detailed information very clearly and very readably. I consider this a must read for dog lovers and wish it were required reading for many people who inadvertantly offend dogs then view the dog as bad or unfriendly. I have to have a highlighter in hand and a quiet place to read this because it deserves undivided attention. I'm sure I'll go back to it again and again as I witness behaviors and further digest the information. I have only a layperson's experience in rescue (all positive) and think anyone involved in rescue would benefit from this book and enjoy reading it. Again, I find the information detailed very clearly and the book very readable. It does not bog down in unnecessary "side trips" and anecdotes are used effectively and not over used. I look forward to reading other books from this author now.

GREAT. Simply written for the novice and the well informed and still learning. The books and authors acknowledged are now on my list of books to add to my doggie brain psychology library and my regular learning the mysteries of the Brain part of my library along with my dog training books of which I have over one hundred to date and growing. Its always been very interesting to me that ,even if I dont care for the training method of the book Im reading, there is ALWAYS something to be learned or relearned. Ive not come across a dog book that has been completely worthless. My first brain book was THE BRAIN HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. And now Im off and running with this GREAT GREAT dual purpose book. HOW PERFECT. MY DEEPEST THANKS to MS. McConnell

I have listened to the Audible version a few times. It's a wonderful book. Now I am buying a hard copy so I can easily refer back to certain chapters and look at the illustrations. I am a huge fan of this author. This book is for people who really want to understand dogs.

Mine was published on 06/09/2018 (at the bottom of the last page). Test #6 answer explanation has too many errors. Page 220, questions #2 does not exist and missing question #5's explanation. p.223, question #28's explanation is not the same question show on the test and the answer on the answer sheet is wrong too. My student's book was published on 05/03/2018, did not have the same errors as mine.Now I want to go through the whole book and see how many more errors are in there.

As a private SAT/PSAT tutor, I have taken or studied all of the Official SAT Practice tests released by the College Board.... I can say with full confidence that the 10 SAT Math Practice Tests by the College Panda are so closely aligned to the ACTUAL SAT Math section, that it is essentially impossible to tell them apart. Not all review materials are created equal.... this book, however, is the real deal. I cannot recommend it enough.

This book has some relatively realistic versions of the SAT's mathematics sections (both calculator and no-calculator). The problems tend to be harder than those found on the test itself, and some of the problems do not contextualize information in the problems in the way that the actual test would (for example, there are problems where "t" is a variable that is not defined as connoting time until the last sentence in the question itself). For students that have a strong mathematics foundation, this book can be really valuable. For those who struggle with math, it may prove to be more challenging than would be helpful.

This book and the advanced guide are the best SAT math prep books on the market today. The math problems are clearly explained and much easier to understand than what the college board publishes. Great for kids that can self-study. It helped improve my kid's SAT math score by 60 points. It would have been an additional 90 points improvement if it wasn't for the harsh June 2018 SAT's "equating" curve.
