The problem with initiated people writing about Orisas is that whatever they think they know is just a guess. Let’s start with the concept of 7 African powers. This is not an Orisa concept. Seven African Powers are 7 groups of African ethnic groups that came to the Diaspora, not Orisa. There are 401 Orisa...not 7. This is basic info for an initiated priest but obviously there are people who just want to make money off of knowling very little.This is the problem with Wiccans trying to capitalize off of ancient traditions. So if the core principle of the very topic is wrong, you can imagine how inaccurate the other information is. Just because it’s written, doesn’t make it true. Wicca , a neo European religion is not and cannot speak for Ancient Orisa Traditions. The author is Wiccan, not any kind of initiate of any Orisa. Ill informed author seems more interested in selling a book o people who hunger for their ancestral traditions than getting accurate information.
This is a small but informative book. It's getting 3 starts because the book has some spells listed but no directions on how to make the ingredients included. How can I add Yoruba open path oil to my spell when I don't know how to make it?
This is an extremely easy read. The author does a great job of breaking down the 7 Orishas and their meaning. It was explained in the simplest of terms which is great for someone like me. I will take what lI earned from this book and continue to expand on that. This is good for anyone who is new to the Orishas and the study's of the Yoruba religious tradition. The spells and prayers were a plus.Some grammatical errors, but easy to over look.
This book offers the basic information into getting acquainted with the Seven African Orishas. Before reading this book my knowledge of the loas were of only two. Now I can add five more to my list of Orishas Ase. I am grateful that this author made the content easy to read and I recommended it to other spiritual seekers.
Very easy read not to long as straight to the point. Like a guide I can go over when needed. This book is not for the weak of heart this practices is typically done in the open no shame of practicing Ifa.
I am very interested inmy roots and my origin, finding my family lead me to our original practices and beliefs. Finding this book addresses some of those beliefs. I have embraced and adopted the Pagan/Wiccan beliefs and rituals of my grandparents grandparents and even thier grandparents.
I really love this book. It's full of information and history, without being overwhelming. The book easily explains the Seven African Powers and the roles they play in our lives. Again, a great book!
Great book. Easy to read and understand who the Orishas are. It also has spells that can be done if you are a Begginer.
