About the Author

Lionel Dakers was born in Rochester, Kent, in 1924, and died in 2003. He was Director of the Royal School of Church Music from 1972 until 1989 and enjoyed an international reputation as an ambassador for excellence in church music. He was also for more than 30 years an examiner for theAssociated Board of the Royal School of Music. He was awarded a Lambeth Doctorate in Music in 1979, became a Fellow of the Royal College of Music in 1980 and was appointed CBE in 1983.

This volume has an array of excellent anthems. This has been used in a congregational church in Old Wethersfield, CT for many years and contains some of the classics (Bach's Jesu Joy) as well as less known anthems to CT audiences that are quite effective. These books hold up for many years with care. It is heavy, but one could always copy the song desired for performance with the publisher's permission.

Wonderful selections - a lot of bang for your buck. This is a staple in our choir with something for every season of the liturgical year. I do wish that it were published with a spiral back, since most of us have had to add that on our own. This is a fairly substantial volume and doesn't lay flat naturally.

This book is used by our choir, and this copy replaced mine, which mysteriously disappeared. I have always enjoyed the anthems in this collection, which are equally appropriate for liturgical and non-liturgical services. I would highly recommend this book to any church choir that takes its music seriously. There are no praise songs in this collection. One of the finest collection of church hymns that I have ever encountered. Most of the composers of the 100 hymns are from the great tradition of the Anglican church, but your Bruckner, Bach, Schubert, Palestrina etc, are there as well.

What a wonderful collection of Anthems! As a member of a choir in the Episcopal Church we use this book weekly - and no one is ever disappointed in the selections. The songs are easy to master and are high church material.

Brilliant. But scarring. On the upside, this book answers some profound questions about human nature, while often misrepresenting evil as a "force" of some sort. The author mercifully concludes with the observation that good precedes evil, and is the natural state. And I believe this to be correct.On the downside, some depictions are heart-wrenching, and I wouldn't recommend the book to sensitive souls. I know that I will not be able to forget some of the things I read in this book.For everyone else with an interest in psychology, this wonderful biographical journey will probably prove as moving as it is insightful.

This is a solid read, although perhaps with not quite as much detail on specific case histories as I would have preferred, personally. This is a first-hand depiction of the development of behavioral science and the field of criminal profiling, alongside the personal and professional life of the author. A little ways into the book, Depue begins to interweave key case histories -- some in gripping detail, others in a more cursory fashion -- including one unsolved case that follows and gnaws at him through his entire career. A recommended read for anyone interested in criminal profiling, and the personal sacrifices requested of the men and women who make it their calling.

I enjoyed the books by John Douglas and Roy Hazelwood, both had interesting takes on the development of criminal profiling. Each had edge of your seat accounts as well as a good dose of self confidence bordering on egomania. This book was different in that the author is more of a self confident person, strong enough to share the spotlight and even to redirect it to another agent. In my opinion, the unit would never have been as successful without such a leader.This is not strictly an analysis of crime scenes etc. It is the background information that anyone who has read about FBI profiling would be interested in.

Great 'auto-biography' about the life of Roger L Depue. The way he is presented in this story is as an outstanding role model for teens and boys. Good solid character, and wise. It is also a sobering reminder that evil does exist in this world. Well written, and deep.

What an excellent book. Besides what has already been said, it is extremely well written and not self-indulgent in the least. It is easily as good as John Douglas's books and maybe better, from a different standpoint. It's more autobiographical, as opposed to a case by case study. For those of us who enjoy this subject, you won't be disappointed.

First heard this on an audiobook, and bought the paperback so my husband could read it as his leisure. A fascinating story about an interesting man's career path.

Wow. Not what you expect. Between Good and Evil is true crime, profiling, biography, and like a modern Crime and Punishment-a book to leave you thinking. The professional and personal life of Roger Depue is woven into a seamless series of stories-more like great fiction than non-fiction. If you ever wondered how police officers survive unrelenting evil, the conclusion will give you an appreciation and a hope that good men like Depue really do out number the evil-doers.
